Kenyan President William Ruto defended his handling of the protests against his now abandoned tax increases in an interview with DW. Ruto said that much of the demonstrations that later escalated into riots calling for his resignation, were "fuelled by fake news." At least 22 people were killed in the course of the months-long demonstrations that saw the parliament building also breached and ransacked. Ruto also discussed his country's relations with Germany, after signing a skilled labor and migration agreement with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin this week. Kenya's debt situation, as well as balancing relations with China and the West were also on the agenda. 00:00 Ruto on his visit to Germany 00:45 Ruto: 'Global challenges' make international cooperation vital 01:47 Kenya's balancing act between the West and China 04:51 Benefits of the Kenya-Germany migration deal 06:00 Ruto: Opportunities for young Kenyans vital 07:00 Ruto defends frequent travel 08:40 Ruto: Deals require mutual understanding 09:25 The sustainability of Kenya's debt situation 12:45 Ruto's handling of the finance bill protests 15:35 Ruto: Protests fuelled by fake news 17:05 Reforms of the African Union Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dwnews_hangout Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch #ruto #kenya #africa
