NPA tackles organised crime

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says there have been nearly 500 accused in organised crime cases in the 2023/2024 financial year, with about half of those being convicted. National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, says organised crime has been identified as a significant threat to South Africa, and is one of the renewed areas of focus for the NPA. In the NPA's annual report, Batohi outlines how the entity is gearing itself to push back at criminality in the country. From April 2023 to March 2024, the NPA achieved a 93% conviction rate in prosecuting organised crime matters. For more news, visit sabcnews.com and #SABCNews on all Social Media platforms.
