Chieftaincy disputes continue to be a challenge for the Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. In KaMasoyi outside White River, Kgoshi Thami Mashego and Velly Mashego have been at loggerheads over the position for more than 12 years. Recently, Velly Mashego went to the council offices in Phola with court papers, in an attempt to oust Thami Mashego.
