Gilead Sciences has announced that affordable versions of the revolutionary HIV prevention drug - Lenacapavir - will soon be available in 120 low- and middle-income countries. This drug, administered as a twice-yearly injection, has demonstrated significant efficacy in preventing HIV, particularly in trials with women in South Africa and Uganda, and men across various countries. However, campaigners express concern that the agreement leaves many high-burden nations, especially in Latin America, at risk and are calling for clarity on pricing. Professor Tulio de Oliveira, Director of the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation chat to us further about the drug.
