As we celebrate Heritage Month, we also celebrate the African new year which coincides with the Spring Equinox happening (22nd-23rd September). As we know, various New year celebrations the world over are linked to lunar cycles or astronomical phenomenon occuring. For the african new year, the beginning of the year was marked by the heliacal rising of Sirius star at dawn, marking the Spring Equinox. Inzalo yeLanga, one the most ancient solar stone calendar in the world continues to track that and tells us how and when we should harvest, relate in society, the solar system and our environment at large. It is also the site where uBaba Credo Mutwa was initiated at age of 16 in 1937. uMkhulu Nsingiza, Kemet historian, student of the Credo Mutwa Afrikan Philosophy, Co founder of the Kemet/Afrikan Royal calendar joins us from the ancient site for more.
