Eastern Cape tackles poverty and malnutrition

The Eastern Cape government is coordinating multiple programmes to eradicate poverty and malnutrition in the province. The office of the Premier is working with other departments and agencies to develop a Provincial Food and Nutrition Security Plan. The primary goal is to guarantee food security. Cultivating the land, regardless of its size, to produce one's own food and the establishment of food hubs in the rural areas are part of government's priorities. Last year the Human Rights Commission issued a report detailing the extent of hunger and malnutrition in the province.
