Eastern Cape | Nelson Mandela Bay Metro addresses housing backlog

The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements in the Eastern Cape says, the Nelson Mandela Bay metro's housing delivery has improved but still faces delays due to extortion, slow electrification, land shortages, and a large backlog. This emerged during a four-day oversight visit of the committee to the metro. In the past, the metro faced housing challenges which led to the National Department intervening and suspending its powers to build houses.
