There is some bad news for Gauteng motorists. If you owe monies for e-tolls - you will STILL have to pay. And if you paid before the system was scrapped - you will not be getting your money back. This is the word from Gauteng Finance and Economic Development MEC, Lebogang Maile. Maile announced that the Gauteng Provincial Government today paid R3.8 billion in e-tolls debt to National Treasury. This is the first of five payments to settle the debt of R12.9 billion. In April this year, the gantries were officially disconnected, and the provincial government agreed to contribute 30% to settle the South African National Road Agency's debt, while National Government would cover 70%.
