E-tolls Debt | 'Gauteng govt R3.8 billion poorer after paying first instalment': Maile

Gauteng Finance and Economic Development MEC, Lebogang Maile says the provincial government has paid R3.8 billion towards the e-toll debt. Maile says the Gauteng government needed to pay the e-toll debt the South African National Roads Agency incurred. This, he added, is to build the road infrastructure as well as deal with the backlog of maintenance and rehabilitation of the network. He assured Gauteng residents that the provincial government is not bankrupt. The e-toll debt of R20 billion has placed significant financial pressure on Gauteng's budget.
