Crime | Burger gets suspended sentence, Lomas back in court on Friday for bail hearing

7 months ago 73

The Pretoria Specialised Crimes Court has sentenced 79-year-old Gerhardus Burger to five years imprisonment, suspended for five years, in the ongoing probe into the Steinhoff insider trading case. Burger was arrested this morning and pleaded guilty to all three charges of contravening the Financial Markets Act. The court also ordered that the monies accrued from the sale of the Steinhoff shares be forfeited to the state. In November 2017, late Chief Executive Officer, Markus Jooste, apparently shared information about the selling of Steinhoff shares before they fell. British businessman, Michael Lomas, will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court in the Ekurhuleni metro tomorrow, for a bail application.
