The Potchefstroom based JB Marks Local Municipality in the North West is facing significant pressure to resolve on going sewage spillages that have polluted Poortjie Dam in Promosa. This is after the North West High Court issued an order forcing the municipality to implement interim steps to curtail the spillages and submit an approved rehabilitation plan to address and resolve them. The order comes after Clean up SA NPC (Non-Profit Company) filed an urgent application last month against seven respondents, including the JB Marks Local Municipality, to stop raw sewage from overflowing into Poortjie Dam and to take remedial steps to stop the pollution by immediately fixing the causes of the spillages and remedy the effects of the pollution caused.
