Coordinated explosions in Lebanon kill 8, injure 3 000

A large number of wireless devices are reported to have simultaneously exploded across Lebanon in what has been described as a coordinated attack, causing at least 8 deaths and injuries to nearly 3 000 people, including members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group. These figures were released by the country's health ministry, but casualty numbers are expected to rise. The pagers, a communication device that predates mobile phones, exploded in a massive security breach among members of the militant group, which has been engaged in cross-border warfare with Israel since the war in Gaza erupted last October.
