outh Africa's sugarcane farmers are urging the government to reconsider an increase to the country's sugar tax. With the moratorium on the Health Promotion Levy set to expire, industry leaders warn that any hike could severely impact the already struggling sector. Both the South African Cane Growers Association and the South African Farmers Development Association are calling for the tax to be scrapped or at least postponed until 2030, allowing time for recovery under the Sugarcane Value Chain Master Plan.
