The sport of kickboxing in South Africa is throwing its hat in the ring, joining the battle against gender-based violence and bullying in the country. K-1 one of the disciplines of mixed martial arts and the local affiliate of the World Kickboxing Union -- is aiming to make the sport more accessible to all in order to build self-esteem. The name K1 stems from a combination of rules from among others Karate, Kickboxing and Kung Fu.
